Plants

Adding plants to your aquarium can bring out the best in your fish and also make your aquarium look like a true natural habitat. Plants provide oxygen and places to hide for your fish, while also helping reduce algae and giving you the enjoyment of a calming, natural aquascape. Many species are hardy and beginner-friendly, thriving with just a good light and occasional fertilization, while others may require CO2 or higher lighting for faster growth, so you can choose plants that match your level of experience. Plants with rhizomes like Anubias should be attached to your rocks or wood using string or aquarium-safe glue, while rooted plants like Vallisneria should be buried into the substrate, ideally with nutrient-rich soil or root tabs to support their growth. When selecting plants, consider their size, growth rate, and compatibility with your fish - some resist nibbling better than others - so you can create a healthy ecosystem.
