Stands
An aquarium stand isn’t strictly necessary, but it’s often the most practical option if you don’t have a sturdy place to put your tank. They are used to support the weight of your tank and raise it to a comfortable viewing height. Even modest aquariums become very heavy once filled with water, substrate, and decorations, so it’s important to choose a stand designed for your tank’s size and load. Wooden frames are a common choice, while metal frames provide extra strength and a modern look. Cabinet-style stands are especially practical, as they hide equipment and can house a sump system beneath the display. Before setting up, always ensure the stand is perfectly level with a bubble (spirit) level to avoid stress on the glass. For larger tanks, don’t just trust the stand—check that the floor itself can handle the weight by confirming adequate support beams and joists beneath.
