Heaters

A heater keeps your aquarium water at the right temperature for your fish. If you’re keeping tropical species, this is a must-have. Heaters come in different power levels, usually measured in watts, so choose one that matches the volume of your tank—we carry options from 50W for smaller aquariums all the way up to 500W+ for the largest setups. Most heaters have an adjustable thermostat. But, it’s always a good idea to use a thermometer alongside your heater so you can keep an eye on the water temperature. For bigger tanks, many aquarists prefer using two smaller heaters instead of one large one—this helps heat the tank more evenly and provides a backup if one fails. Place your heater near good water flow, usually at the back of the aquarium, so heat circulates evenly. And remember, a good quality heater is worth the investment—the last thing you want is to come back to a tank of stressed or overheated fish.
